The county's Corner Store in the Moorestown Mall is seeking new or used books, CDs and DVDs for troops deploying from McGuire Air Force Base.
Administrative Clerk Valerie Torelli, who runs the store, which is an extension of the county Clerk's Office, said she has collected DVDs and CDs for troops in the past through a program organized by state legislators.
When that program concluded, she decided to contact McGuire about making future donations and to start collecting books as well.
"We're all big readers here at the store," she said. "You buy paperback books, you pass them along and then, what do you do with them when you're done?"
Now, used books collected at the store will be sent to McGuire where departing troops can select books from the collection before they are deployed.
The store is no stranger to collecting items for worthy causes.
Used cell phones are collected for the Sheriff's Department, which turns them into emergency phones for seniors and women at risk of domestic violence.
The store also collects pet supplies, old blankets and towels for the county Animal Shelter. In addition, empty ink and toner cartridges are collected at the store and given to the Burlington County Animal Alliance, which turns them in for money. The funds are used to support the Animal Shelter.
The store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call (856) 642-3833.
