Tuesday November 4th Is Election Day
For many years my mother Cora Cherry has worked the polls. She is a faithful worker and always puts her all in to whatever she does. When I talked to mom this morning, she reminded me that there were a few things that people should be aware of when it comes voting. These helpful hints are valid in New Jersey and may also apply to other states.
- VOTE your conscience. May the best man win.
- Bring photo ID. It may not be required, but why chance it.
- Don't wear political paraphernalia into the polling place. All polling places have a sign which state "no electioneering within 100 feet of this polling place". Wearing a political hat, buttons, t-shirts into the polling place is considered electioneering.
- Challengers will be stationed inside the polling places. Challengers are hired by the political parties and their sole purpose is to challenge anyone they think does not have the right to vote. If challenged, stay calm and answer all questions asked. Mom says that not all challengers are nice! But the bottom line is that you have the right to vote. If there is a problem, ask to cast a provisional (paper) ballot.
- If you cast a provisional (paper) ballot, your ballot will be sent to the voting commission and they will determine later if you had a right to vote. This is better than being turned away without casting a vote. Also, do not tear anything off the paper ballot. Some may a perforated section with your identifying information on it. If you tear this off, no one will be able to determine who cast that ballot.
- Skip the hassle of Election Day and cast an absentee ballot. You have until 3pm on November 3rd to pick up an absentee ballot in person at your county clerks office. The ballots must be returned in person or by mail by 8pm on Election Day. I will post a list of county clerk addresses below.
I hope this information helps someone. Thanks mom.
Have a great day

Very good advice , Leander
I am going out though on the 4th and be a part of the process, which might include standing in line. I love election day! The process makes me feel very patriotic!
Bo
This is a great list from a very reliable source. Your mom looks so sweet and kind. I know she is a blessing to everyone who knows her. I can always tell when someone has a great mom...and I knew you did! GBU!
Leander, thanks for the useful info and thanks to your Mom for serving her community. As you know, these poll workers are some really dedicated individuals. BTW- now I see where you get your smile!
Leander, this is some good information. Although I never wear political shirts or hats, its good to know that people are discouraged from wearing them there. I think its cute that in your message you type 'mom says'. And YES I do still think I am manly even though I said 'cute'.
BJohn - You are a manly man even though you said cute....just don't let it happen again, lol. Just kidding. This is coming from a man who has been known to wear a pink shirt :)
Jim - yeah I love my mommy and yes, now you see where I get the smile (and the grey hair )
Elizabeth - Thanks very much. yes my mom is a sweet lady.
Bo - I will be voting also on the 4th. No matter who wins, I am hoping that this country will be heading for better times ahead
Pink is still IN my friend.
I will be working on the get out the vote in New Hampshire. It is one of our most important freedoms. I just did a post to try to help those who are still undecided. It is important that everyone gets the unbiased information they need to exercise their right to vote!
